Curious on 2 fronts. Why the hatred and why the need to say it so damn vehemently? I realize some are very stuck in their old ways and there is no accounting for taste but why such passion? It could have easily gotten physical. It's bizarre behavior and treatment of a fellow rider/brother - without provocation.
Well, if they don't believe in progress, maybe they need to go back to steam powered vehicles. I don't know. I'm pretty new to the Harley family and maybe I just haven't been corrupted with one way thinking yet. But I don't understand the animosity and urge to force ones ideas on another person. It's ok to say it but then drop it. Chill out even.

Lots of ways to handle this situation. One would be to ask them what they ride. If you feel like sticking it back (I don't recommend that if they are likely to get physical) is to ask them why they don't ride "real" Harleys. By that I mean belt-drive ones like the original.
Of course, you might tell them the last "real Harley" was the <fill in the blank - pick from Flathead, Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead> or ask them why they don't think the V-Rod is a real Harley. And what's their take on the Buell?

It sounds like the typical punks these days who fancy calling themselves 'bikers'--- you know the ones, I won't bother to describe them here. It's the 'pack mentality' you are seeing---- feeding off each other. You get any one of them alone away from the others, and what have you got? A coward.

I agree 100%. I don't know if it is a new phenomenon but it does seem to be very prevalent in all parts of society these days.
It is like all these newbies who down Sportsters as "Girls Bikes". Before the Evo a 74" (1200cc) was what was in Electra Glides. My Father rode a 1945 45" Harley (Man I wish I had that bike now!)
Ride what ya like and can afford.

I've been riding Harleys for 35 years; it wasn't even "cool" back then, and there weren't many of us. We stuck together because we HAD to.
This so-called "attitude" might be attributed not to the beginner or novice riders, but probably more to the guys who've had thier bikes a few years, and then therefore, they think they're the seasoned old-time bikers and all, and have 'earned' the right to be badass. I'll bet you a dollar, these are the same guys who will pass a biker that's broken-down alongside the road, and give them that cool two-finger wave, and keep right on going, and not even have the slightest friggen clue...........
Nome sain?
I'm not real wild about the V Rod myself but I won't bash them unless I know the guy or girl riding them and then its all in fun. It doesn't matter what you ride. Don't let the idiots bother you with their comments. Just smile and walk away. They're not worth the bull$%#* they're talking.
To answer some of your questions, they were old dudes, late 50's - 60's and been riding as long as me.
Bigincher, I've been riding almost 35 years myself and it is not cool ever, I also took the same crap for having an AMF.
Buzz, I did get them, they were both on shovels and I made reference to the fact the MoCo was owned by AMF when their bikes were made and probably have more Jap parts then mine as I heard "jap ****" 1/2 dozen times. I also informed them that if anything call it: high end German ****. A quick rundown of the HP and my 1/4 times had them a bit subdued as well.
48panshovel, I can live with different taste in bikes, I personally think the DX is the baddest looking and running stock bike ever produced but that's me. I would not expect a rider on a Panhead to like a Harley styled like a drag bike, it only makes sense, although some do. However it's the need to bark about it that's focked up. It's a Harley regardless of what anyone needs to think, it's a work of art technically from a company who has ignored technology forever. It's all good. Why would such a staunch Harley man have a problem? Hell, it's a feather in the company's cap.
In any case they stroke these shovels out to all hell for speed yet do not appreciate the Revo, and still can't touch it!
