Make sure the gun you buy is the one you really like even if you have to wait til more money rolls in. Better to get what you like the first time instead of trading and losing money on something that you tried to save a couple bucks on. Lots of research and renting.

Agree, as always, get what you want and what you will be comfortable with. On that note, i can't resist getting into a good debate on what is the 'best gun' for home defense, on the assumption you can only choose one. but i always take notice when someone says the best home defense gun is a shotgun. I could not disagree more! For some maybe, for most, no. a shotgun for many is a complicated weapon and unweildy in hallways and narrow spaces. for us in this forum, and it seems by our comments, we are avid shooters, shotgun, semi, revolver, don't matter to us, we can probably handle either one competently under various conditions. For many shooters, the only time they will handle a gun is at the store when they buy it, 4 hours at a range, and that might be it for a year or so. for those shooters, a shotgun, semi, are absolutely the worst guns to have in a house where they might have to use it at 3a.m. you have heard what i am saying a hundred times before. Long way of saying i think the 'best' gun for home defense is a hammerless revolver, regardless of your experience level. simple and safe. i say hammerless because the problem with a regular revolver is you leave the shooter a choice of going double or single. with many inexperienced shooters, who have seen too many movies, they will cock the hammer when they hear a noise or get scared. fine and good, until the noise turns out to be a mouse. now, you have an inexperienced shooter that has to uncock the weapon. how many incidents can you recall where the hammer slips while decocking and blamo (me for one, when i was 19). Same problem goes for shotguns too. everyone likes to rack in that round for that sound, but how do you uncock a pump. you gotta pump out every round..watch the trigger while you do that..have you been drinking tonight? Hammerless is decisive, yes its not a .45 that will stop a moose in your basement, but not much to think about other than you pick it up and pull that trigger. it is also not a 'killer' round, like a .357, 44 etc, which the lawyers will get you for in court should the poor intruder get hurt or killed and is now presented as a victim of your senseless actions. btw, I, like one of the forum writers here, have a SWhammerless with crimson trace for home defense. blah blah blah, okay, i said enough now, any recommendations on 'best' gun to carry while riding a motorcycle?

I'm a Springfield fan. I picked up an xd 9mm few years back and several thousands of rounds later picked up it's big brother in 45 acp. To me they are crisp, clean and point well instinctively. I would love to get my hands on one of those racegun slabsides some day. That will probably happen after I win the Lotto. Having a Taurus 85 in 38 special loaded down with some good +P hollowpoints as a ditch gun feels right. Gunny keep shooting everything you can get yours and your Mrs. hands on and the right one/one's will tell you who they are on the line.
