Hi, Mike...I feel your pain. I'm not in the biz, but most relatives and marriage associates are...
Last year, My wife found these filters that would help remove pollen, etc. better. I didn't have the problem right away. Damage is spot on, with what happened to me...the filter's flow rate, and my system's monitoring value were too close. I think it worked fine in the winter, and that was it. Kudos to my bro in law...I enjoyed watching his diagnostic talent. He pulled his hair a couple times. We finally got a manometer and started measuring.
I also wonder, would it be efficient to run another duct in the attic just to the bedrooms, or finish a small room in the attic, if a high pressure problem is to blame. It makes me wonder if there is a restriction, like they necked it down to adapt to your duct. I wonder if you could install like a baro- damper on it somewhere, too... again to relieve the pressure. What kind of air flow do you get at the register? Real hard blow? All over the house? Your supply ducts may have a damper inside them,I would think so. Mine do, and I have to adjust them for correct use of my system depending on the season. You never know, sometimes it's the easy things. Has anyone checked to be sure the duct work is completley open? There's not a chunk of insulation in there, right? Good luck buddy, I hope you get it worked out soon. It's coming early this year... 94

Hey, you're right about Winter arriving early this year. I get really good air flow out of all the registers, there is not a damper in the system that I have ever seen. I really think it is just a case of the ducts being designed to carry the comparatively low air flow of the old furnace built back in 1974 when efficiency was not considered to be important. I haven't heard anything from my HVAC guy, it may be dawning on him that I won't be a happy camper if he asks me to pay for his screw up of not reconfiguring the ducts during the install.
