I went from Vista to 7 on my Dell 1525 lappy. I neglected to baseline the performance with Vista, but 7 seems to make it noticeably faster.

No problems yet.

About ayear ago, we got a laptop w/ vista. I can't beleive how bad it is. All I do with it are pics and movies... and I wound up buying Quicktime Pro for PC to do my movies. WMM just could not do what was advertised. Ever. No matter how many 3 year old kids tried.
Each time I tried to do my movies, I had to deal w/ endless error messages. When I called HP for support, get this, they wanted me to send the camera, all cords, and everything peripheral I used on it. Really? No thanks.
Whatever the cost next time, and forever, will be Mac.
Oh, and right now, I'm on my desk top w/ XP. As always. I can't stand the laptop which cost just over a grand.
Good luck with whatever you choose... think of it this way... if you spend the 1/2 the money and can't use it, you just may justify the cost of one you can.

We have two with Vista and not a problem with either. I got to use a computer that had 7 and to me it does not look like too much has changed from Vista. Just my 2 cents.

Well Vista has some good and bad points, not everyone can use it to its fullest, and yes there are some problems, Windows 7 is an upgrade to Vista that Microsoft is hoping will have solved some of there problems. My wife did by a laptop with Vista and most of her problems are clicking multiply times before the OS has time to catch up. Mac's work fine until you are trying to work with web tools on line as most on lline services do not support Mac's for there on line tools and it does cause problems for Mac users. Linux is a very stable OS for the back room, however it will be some time before most users will have it on there desktops, need to know more about computers and OS's before most use it.
Best to decide what you are going to use your computer for first and then fine the correct OS for yourself. Also support for Vista will drop off come next summer and Microsoft will only support Windows 7 from that time on.
I use many OS's for what I'm doing so I know that there are pluses and negatives for all OS's

I've run 7 since before it came out, had a trial disc sent to the house and so far so good, previously Vista and Xp had a few minor issues, I always jump to the latest op's though.

3rd vote on a mac.
I've been using Apple computers since the mid eighties, they cost more but in my opinion worth it. Not worth it if you're into gaming, but always been a more stable computer in my opinion. Owned 8 macs since '85 and never had a major problem. 3 pc's replaced hard drives, power supplies. As far as Windows 7, I haven't heard anything good or bad yet.
