Default 2001 Indian Scout

Hey all.

I have an opportunity to buy my sister-in-law's 2001 Indian Scout. It's a low-mileage bike (<6K) w/an S&S engine. Very good condition w/lots of extras (crash bar, floorboards, backrest and windshield).

What I need are impressions, experiences, etc. anyone might have with this bike. Also, (1) Are Indians mechanically similar to Harleys?; (2) This bike looks like a Softail, but with a different swingarm. Does it use the same concealed suspension?; (3) Where do you get parts for an S&S engine, if needed?

Here's a link for a photo of one just like it:

Lastly, if I've duplicated this thread, my apologies. Unable to find my earlier post.

Hey Sarge.

1. Yes.

2. Yes.

3. S&S dealers, and any of a ton of places.

Scouts are hot little bikes, but they have their share of issues. Try the Indian Motorcycle Community or Iron Indian Riders websites. Lots of Scout riders you can talk to there.
