I've ridden a bunch of late-model Harleys, and the Victory Vegas. While there were a couple of Harley's that I really enjoyed, for $5000 less, I could get myself something that you don't see at every local watering hole. Even better, I don't have to buy into Harley-Davidson marketing tactics of paying more than asking price for a new bike.
I'm not a wrench though, so I can't comment on how easy they are to work on.
My preference has always been Harley Davidson and i personally have never bought into their maketing tactics nor have i ever paid more than msrp and those who do have nobody to blame but themselves. As far as i know Victory suppose to be a decent bike it's just not my preference.
From what I have seen with Victory is that they are a very strong running bike and pretty reliable. I have riden the Hammer and the Vegas and am currently debating whether I want to buy the '06 hammer or if I want to buy the new Harley Streetbob and then customize it to my preference. But from what I have heard and noticed, Victory is putting out an excellent ride.
.......a nice bike but they just look metric when you look at the engine. I think they'll be around and continue to grow but owners are still going to be chided a bit because of the Snowmobile/JetSki heritage. HD is an American institution and respect takes time. Even with Indian being taken over by a boat company - they still get more respect. If you like it - ride it. F*ck opinion - ride what you like.
Honestly, that emblem they have on the tank and their logo in general turn me off. If it just said "Victory" in a nice stylized logo it would be fine. To me it looks like some sort of cloisonne pin that's been glued on and ruins the line of the tank and paint. The design's too busy ad looks like it should be on the front of a car more than the side of a bike's tank. It also looks too retro to be on a machine that looks so modern. The design looks like something out of the first half of the century and takes away modern lines of the bike. You don't see the art-deco eagle on VRODs, do ya'? And you don't see the Dodge Ram logo on the side or a '32 5 window coupe.
Plus, the word "Polaris" under it make me automatically think "Snowmobile" And it bring up memories of when AMF owned HD and they were making golf carts and anything else that was motorized they could stamp the HD tag on.
Indian wasn't taken over by a boat company. The company buys companies that have a long heritage and good name, one of those companies happens to be a boatmaker.

TRUE
yep, you're right - they're a company that rescued
ChrisCraft and a few others
I've ridden a couple of Victory's and they handle great, pull great and seem to be entirely reliable. Yes there is a bit of a metric look to certain parts, but it's still an American bike. The only other drawback is, get that bike low enough in the turns, and you'll drag a peg (as opposed to scraping frame or pipes on a Dyna or Softail).
Ha! The frame scrapes plenty easy on the Victory's! It's a bit unsettling when it happens too!
I really like thier bikes alot. Well made, good looks, competitive performance. I don't have any real brand loyalty so, the whole "HD vs the world" debate nevers enters the picture.
Running an 02 RK that was lowered a bit before I got it. It scrapes but only if I do something stupid.
I have ridden one or two Vic's and they are fine. They are just not H-D's. I know I sound like an ad and I sort of wonder if I have been brain washed over the years into buying into the "Motor Company" BS
Jus wonderin...
