Default Thinking about a Big Dog or AIH

Would like some feedback on the Big Dog bikes. Have been in the market for a pro-street type of bike and leaning toward the BD and Ironhorse bikes. My question is ,havent had much experince with these manufactures and would like some honest advice. I did try out a 08 Mutt, and the thing that I really remember the most in the ride was how much vibration the bike had idiling and running. Although it did smooth out as you begin to pick-up speed. Found out by e-mailing Big Dog that they dont use rubber engine mounts,is this where most of the vibration comes from? Would do the HD Rocker, but to get rid of that stupid looking seat, the Heartland kit is going to set you back another 3K. Still like the Big Dog and AIH bikes they are awesome looking bikes. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

I believe IronHorse is going thru some tuff financial stuff right now, might want to keep that in mind.

My nephew just bought a Big Dog chopper with 3000 miles on it from a dealer in Michigan for half the price of a new one ($16k). He loves it. Seems to be very well made. The depreciation would be something to keep in mind as well as whether some of these semi-custom bikes' makers will be around through this economic mess.

Do you know how to work on bikes? Can you handle turning a wrench almost as much as you ride?

If no, then don't get one.

I use to own a 2006 BDM and sold it for a new Ultra.

I wouldn't buy a AIH if you paid me. They are junk. IMHO

I traded in my BDM so that should tell you that.

Want more info on a BDM... here's a forum Big Dog Biker Understand most there are pro-bdm (almost too much) but there is a great deal of info.

Why buy either? I'll build you whatever you want for comparable money or less!

And that is probably a better idea anyway...

But then again you can get these BDM bikes used for $12k-$18k

Love my aih tejas. Haven't ha much trouble. Sorry stock battery, that's about it. You can get em cheap, but I wouldn't count on a warranty.

As far as vibration, Seems to shake less than my buddies stock 05 soft tail standard.

I had a 03 Tejas. Rode it for 3 years, had 31,000 on when I sold it. Only problems I ever had was, one compression release went bad and had a recall on the rotor carrier. Both were covered under warranty. I also understand AIH is now totally out of business, gone forever.

Big dog and custom builders are not cheap. Not even at a discount. Personally I prefer the ride, handling and comfort of a stock set-up Vs. a big longa$$ chopper. That is my preference. If you don't have your likes and dislikes sorted out regarding handling and comfort then that is the first step towards answering your question. As far as vibration - that's gonna be a common thing with a big inch V.
