Default S&S X Wedge

Curious what people think of and know about the new S&S X Wedge engine?

Here's a photo of the mule version on the S&S dyno.

I logged onto the S&S website a fer weeks ago. The engine sounds really good, has a nice lope to it at idle and sounds like a Harley upon aceleration.
I like the freespinning design. If the timing belt breaks, the valves won't hit the piston! I also like the fact that it is new AND air cooled!
Hopefully S&S won't get greedy with the prices on parts for it as they will most likely be propriority.

Oh yeah, I do NOT like the fact that it will not mount up to ad H-D style frame. It requires it's own engine mount arrangement, but it WILL accept an H-D style primary/tranny combo.

So what's the deal on this new engine? I know S&S has been making replacement parts (including their carbs and famous air cleaners) and complete engines for Harleys for years. Is this totally different or what?

Any people out there been thinking about the new X-Wedge? I know it needs a different frame because it's so tall. But it sure sounds like it will be a good motor for the future if you don't want a radiator on your bike. It sounds, from what I've read, to be very automotive in design in some important ways that will make the engine very reliable and powerful. I think if I was going to put together a long haul ride, I would consider this engine. I don't seem to be able to find many frames yet. Just thought I'd give this thread a little kick in the ass cause the scenery was getting little stale if you know what I mean.

If I was going to build a bike from the ground up I would give the X Wedge very serious consideration.

The engine is obviously the way of the future, with all the EPA/CARB certs. I much prefer the P Series engine. The Panhead is just so "classic" looking, and it's couple G's less than the X......ya can get a lot of extra parts for them $$$$

I would love to try out the X-Wedge but they have not come out with a Kaliforgnia legal version yet, and....... it is out of my budget anyways.

I think the new air-cleaner that will be out in March will make the X-Wedge legal in Calif. with a S&S carburetor. At least that's what I understood from their press release. As far as money goes, I know what you mean. A 100" Sportster engine is around $9000 with out all the other stuff to make the engine run, "primary components, charging system, ignition system, oil pump, and transmission components are not included".
