Hey All, been lurking for a couple of weeks. Had the bike out 3 or 4 times this year now. Usually spend the short summers riding my weekly commute between Edmonton area and Fort McMurray AB. (440km or so). The cold temps are one thing to put a damper on the riding season, but even worse is the gravel on the roads that doesn't get swept up till the end of may. Turn a corner too quick at those intersections they've been sanding all winter and that arse-end will kick out in a hurry! Talk to ya later.

Hi Shaggyman
Welcome to the board. Lots of guys, and dolls here that can offer up info when needed, and also looking forward to your input when you can.
What do you ride? got pictures?
I'm off to Laughlin Nevada this morning, so I'll check back in, next week.

Hello Shaggyman, you have a nice scooter and a lousy commute. Welcome to the forum, I live about 5 hours north of you and have family in your neighborhood.
Hey Caper
Just noticed your post here, must have slept through it last month. You should check out the North Sydney Hospital fund-raiser. The prize is an OCC production bike painted in the Cape Breton tarton. It would work with that vanity plate of yours. Then when you hit those old CB roads you'll fit right in. Don't have any details on price or what OCC model. I'm told they will draw for it in August during a big rally in Sydney. (Cape Breton Bikefest : Thunder in the Highlands : Coming July-August 2009) Hope you win it. I'm crossing my fingers for the AIM Big Dog draw myself.
Anyone else headed to the east coast in late July early August might want to check out that link too. It's the first year for the rally but it has one can't lose feature. It includes Cabot Trail runs and if you haven't done that yet I suggest you get to it. I go to Cape Breton to ride it a couple of times a year and it never gets old.
Hey 03- don't think I have had a chance to respond to your note- gonna win that OCC! I took my bike to Cape Breton last summer, (cheated: trailered it- lol) for the week of the monsoons. Rode anyway, down roads I had not been on since I was 17 (about 40 years ago). A blast! Probably won't make the Thunder in the Highlands this year, but probably will next, by which time my garage should have an H-D in it (signed up here to learn about the brand).
Thanks for the info!

i`m proud to say i`m from new brunswick.lot`s of beautiful scenery everywhere.went for a ride yesterday( dec 7). 6 inches of snow today. you have to get out whenever you can.
Hi again fellow Canucks and sympathizer-descendants! I got a message that there had been another reply to this thread (Birdman's), so I logged back in, first time since June. I am here to confess that despite my intentions on buying an HD, in August I saw an offer I couldn'r refuse and bought a new old stock 2006 Yamaha Roadliner 1900 (113"). I guess that leaves me out of this fraternity . Honestly, I still love Harleys and may well add one to the stable when budgets permit, but the bike I bought stole my rider's heart.
It was nice meeting so many excellent and helpful people. I don't want to be a troll, but would like to come back here from time to time to see how my HD rider friends are doing.
BTW, I did ride to Dover on November 13. It was 2 degrees C when I left, but a gorgeous day once I got there. I am guessing maybe 8,000 bikes. Not many vendors though, the good weather seemed to to catch them by surprise. Was a six-hour ride return, a nice run for so late in the year.
Thanks again to everybody who gave me such a warm welcome, terrific advice and sharing of perceptions. There is at least one more metric rider out here who understands your affection for your brand of machine.
We are all brothers and sisters under the tins.
Shiny side up!
Another Canuck from the middle of the country. Minnedosa, Manitoba nice little town in a valley. Glad to see we have a number of Canadians on site that can sympathize with me during the winter months
