Default Motorcycle Abuse

Yup I am Guilty!
I rode in a light rain, on slick frosty roads that had been sanded..... and then parked the bike in the barn and forgot all about it. Poor thing sat there for 2 or 3 weeks, until today I got her out and this is what I find.....

RUST Its everywhere...... there was even sand on the fenders, dirt and road filth everywhere I looked......

So for self punishment I got a 1-hour sentance, So I washed and detailed the bike . I have been released on good behaviour to go ride tomorrow .

Whew! All nice and shiney clean again!

I didn't reproduce (that I know of)... the world is safe. The wifey has 2 from before, the girls are 22 and 23 and on thier own now.......
Thanks, I love that bike, it gets down the road quick too! 20k miles on her in the first 2 years, so it does get ridden. Then I got the 06 Ultra and this one dont get ridden as often.

Oh I didnt mention that to get into some of the smaller areas on the bike and motor, I use those monster Q-tips. I put them in the cordless drill and spin them slowly between the fins... and other tight areas to get it all clean. just an idea I thought I'd throw out there.

Nice bike, love the flames. I had flames like that on my Sporty.
Yea I live on a dirt road, work is on a dirt road, so it is two and a half miles of dirt road every day, what is that about six hundred miles a year. Plus some of the best riding roads are dirt, at least another four hundred miles.
(But no salt)
So yea my bike is dirty most of the time.
If I start out with a clean bike it stays clean for, at least, well it’s dirty before I hit the pavement.
Pressure washer and a clean towel first stop is my best friend when I am going anywhere that I want it to be clean.
That and pig spit.

Thanks, I bought this as is, so I get no credit for the build other than being lucky enough to have a job and being able to pay for it (and keeping it maintained and running) I too live on a dirt road, so cleaning is a constant job. It sure cleans up nice, but I think the flash on the camera put a false "sparkle" to it cuz it is covered with little rust spots and tiny scratches, rubbed off chrome etc.

I have always thought using a pressure washer would cause damage to paint, gaskets lenses, etc. the water could force its way into places it dont belong. I guess it is a matter of common sense and just backing away when in those areas and then come in close for places like the wheels, under the fenders etc.

Understand about dirty rides, I hadn't really touched mine except for riding for the winter. Took it out yesterday and was ashamed of myself when I got her out on the road in the bright sun. I got home and gave her a well deserved bath. The dust here in south west Oklahoma is a @#$%^& on the paint and chrome. I still am having an issue getting between the fins clean and black again, any advise would be appreciated.
