How to Choose a Klock Werks Flare Windshield

Klock Werks has launched its Find Your Flare program.

One size does not fit all! Klock Werks developed a variety of windshield heights for many models so riders can find a fit that really works. Find the right Flare for your stance with new vertical height measurements.

If you can, always “Try It Before You Buy It!” Klock Werks set up a test pilot program with dealers all over the world that allows customers to try the windshields at no cost and no obligation. This is the best way to find what works for you.

But, if you can’t get to a dealer, how do you find the right height? When choosing a Klock Werks Flare Windshield, we suggest that you look over it. When you know where you line of sight is, you can make an educated decision about which Flare to purchase according to the vertical height of each shield.

Klock Werks Shows How to Measure Line of Sight

Klock Werks shows how to measure your line of sight.

“The ability to see over the windshield not only gives you the clearest view of what’s ahead of you, but it also puts your head and shoulders in the sweet-spot of the air managed by the windshield,” Jennifer Bainbridge, Klock Werks Lead R&D explained.

To find your line of sight, you may need an extra hand! Sit on your motorcycle and try to recreate your usual riding position. If you slouch often when you ride, take that into account. With a ruler or tape measure, have your helper measure vertically from the center of your stock windshield. Be certain the measuring device is straight as possible. At what measurement does your line of sight lie? Now that you know, choose a Flare with a vertical height that is LESS THAN that measurement.

If you ride two-up frequently, consider your passenger’s line of sight. You may want to choose an option with more coverage. Please note, choosing a Flare based on your line of sight does NOT guarantee the best overall air management possible. This method, while 95% accurate, cannot recreate the actual experience of riding. Use our dealer locator at getklocked.com to find a dealer nearest you to “Try It Before You Buy It.” You may also choose to have your Flare installed by the Klock Krew at a rally nearest you or test drive a Flare on a Harley Davidson during the Legend Suspension Performance Tour, starting date to be announced.

Official 2017 Daytona Bike Week Build: Klock Werks Flare Windshield

The 2017 Official Daytona Bike Week Motorcycle is accumulating quite the pedigree of parts. The tried-and-true stock Harley Ultra formula looks much sportier thanks to the Paul Yaffe Bagger Nation touch, including a Chupa Rear Fender, Super Stretch Saddlebags, and Razorback Gas Tank. If getting upgrades from one custom bike building legend wasn’t enough, it’s also got traces of the incomparable Arlen Ness in its design straight from Arlen Ness Enterprises red hot 10-Gauge line of parts, the front seeing the addition of 10-Gauge Hot Legs and Fork Boots while the engine, tranny pack, and primary all don 10-Gauge covers. The 2017 Official Daytona Bike Week build is now not only starting to look the part, it’s running like a top thanks to an RPT Air Intake, Power Port Dual Headpipes, and Race-Pro 4” Slip-Ons from Cobra USA.

With the likes of Yaffe and Ness already associated with the bike, it’s only fitting to add the name of another custom building heavyweight to the mix – Klock Werks. The company’s Flare Windshield is one of the best on the market, with an aerodynamic design that’s been tested in wind tunnels. It’s got the “Flip” at the top that reduces turbulence on riders and “Hips” on the sides that routes wind away while adding downforce to the front end. In our opinion, it looks pretty darn sharp, too. Klock Werks is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2017, and you don’t enjoy that type of longevity in this industry without manufacturing quality products.

Eric Crayson of Street Stuff Cycle tightens the screws of the Klock Werks 3.5″ Dark Smoke Flare Windshield onto the 2017 Official Daytona Bike Week Motorcycle.

Street Stuff Cycle’s Eric Crayson slapped it onto the stock Batwing fairing in a jiffy and added some Klock Werks Contrast Cut Trim for good measure. We can’t wait to see the look on the face of the person who wins this bike! As of 12/28/2016, only 563 out of 4500 tickets had been sold, and this bike is going to be raffled off whether it reaches the maximum or not, so chances of winning could be even better.

If you’d like to get in on the 23rd annual drawing, head over to OfficialBikeWeek.com to buy your tickets. You don’t have to be present to win, so even if you can’t make it to Daytona Beach Bike Week this year, you can still ride away a winner.

Klock Werks Celebrates 20th Anniversary in 2017

Brian Klock and Willie G 1992

Nice hair Brian! A fresh-faced Klock stands proudly next to Willie G with his first custom bike.

A two decade milestone has arrived as Klock Werks celebrates 20 years of business!

Klock Werks started the celebration early by sending out free, limited edition anniversary calendars. On the pages of this 16-month calendar are the kustom Klock Werks’ vehicles that have afforded this company 20 years of survival in an ever-changing, fast-paced world. If you missed the chance to get a calendar, be sure to watch the website as a history vehicle will be featured, and the story told, each month throughout 2017.

“We are honored to pay tribute to those who have gone before us and those who have helped us get where we are today. This past 20 years have been a journey — with thousands of miles driven, hundreds of bikes built, millions of smiles, and motorcycle camaraderie that has forever changed and enhanced our lives,” COO Dan Cheeseman said.

Klock Werks COO Dan Cheeseman back in the day!

Dan Cheeseman was one of the first people Brian hired and together they “worked on whatever came through the door.” Cheeseman is now Klock Werks COO.

It all began in a rural, South Dakota town where Brian Klock’s parents owned a gas station. His love of all things motorized started early! Before spray painting cars with his brothers at home, he used to charge neighborhood kids cash to ride his Honda 50. His entrepreneurial spirit and passion for a kustom touch led to an FXR project in 1988 and his first award-winning kustom in 1990.

John “Quigley” Patton helped Brian start Klock Werks in Patton’s garage where they finished a turbo-charged bagger for Roger Klock, Brian’s dad. In 1997, Brian got his first magazine spread, and Klock Werks was moved into a single-car garage with no sign in Mitchell, SD. Dan Cheeseman was hired, and together, they worked on whatever came through the door.

“I studied guys like Donnie Smith, Arlen and Cory Ness, Dave Perewitz, Jim Betlach, Lee Clemens, Don Hotop, Tom Motzko, Grady Pfeiffer, Tank, and many more in those early years,” Brian Klock said. “I’m such a fan of the industry.”

Brian Klocks original shop

The old Klock Werks shop back in the day – no sign in a single-car garage!

Later, in 2004, the business was moved into its current location, a 7,000 square feet facility. The larger building afforded space for new software, more space for R&D and kustoms, and a dyno Quigley always wanted. The inception of the product line started with fenders. Brian and Dan were severely disenchanted with the quality of available after-market fenders, and after hours of prepping them, many took a one-way flight across the shop. With focus provided by Laura, who joined the team in 2005, the guys shifted from kustom bikes to a high-quality product line with ensured accurate fitment.

In 2006, the growing Klock Krew accepted a call to participate in the Discovery Channel Biker Build Off. This was their chance to debut their first products and parts. The bike was a kustom bagger, the first-ever for the build off, and it won!

“Three weeks later, we were at the starting line at the Bonneville Salt Flats with the winning bagger,” Brian Klock said. “After two passes, Laura rode to a National Land Speed Record.”
Reporting a lift from the front end as she increased speed, the team set out to create a product that would make the bike safer for Laura to race. The patented Flare Windshield was born, and the company grew exponentially! The added downforce, air management, and sheer style of the part has afforded the Flare the title of Product of the Year, twice.

Developing a parts line, there were several factors that Klock Werks would not compromise on. Top of the line manufacturing processes and materials were a must, and the company’s hard-earned dollars would stay in the USA. It all started with kustom builders, and the mission was to create accurate fitment and easy installation so anyone could kustomize their own ride. The company has stayed committed to their intentions, and vowed to always provide the absolute best customer service.

Klock Werks Team Photo

Brian will be the first to tell you that Klock Werks success is a team effort!

Drag Specialties also accepted the product line in 2006. Laura and her daughters, Erika and Karlee, became the first mother-daughter-daughter racing team to hold land-speed records at the same time by 2008, and Klock Werks’ kustom motorcycles continued to be featured in magazines and videos all over the world. In 2012, Laura and Brian were inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame. In 2014, Klock Werks entered the Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Indian markets.

Today, the company has 16 full-time employees and sells parts all around the globe. The Flare Windshield continues to lead as the number one selling part, but custom bike shops and garage builders utilize other high quality, high functioning parts, like the adjustable KlipHanger Handlebars, e-coated stamped steel fenders, and most recently, Klock Werks Device Mounts, powered by the iOmounts system.

Klock Werks new website, getklocked.com, will follow the NEW, limited-edition 16-month calendar through 2017 with special blog posts, videos, and galleries about the tribute bikes. Each month, a new vehicle will be in the spotlight as we reminisce and look back, fondly, at 20 years of life, 20 years of friendship, 20 years of building rad machines, and 20 years of business in Mitchell, SD.

Klock Werks Veteran’s Day Salute, Offers Free Gift to Service Members

“Veteran’s Day is the day to be thankful for the service to all veterans, past and present, who took the oath and wrote that blank check to the government for an unlimited amount up to, and including, their life.”

Klock Werks Engineer Sgt. Logan Homstad

-Sgt. Logan Homstad, Klock Werks Engineer, Fire Team Leader, Construction Foreman of a Combat Engineer Platoon, United States Marine Corps.

Courageous men and women, out of compassion for their country, give the ultimate sacrifice for others. Sometimes this sacrifice is their breath and beating heart. The men and women of our military give up everything they know to serve the Unites States of America, and they do so in many facets. Klock Werks salutes and thanks our service men and women of the past and today, and we are honored to show them our gratitude on Veteran’s Day, and every day.

Klock Werks has always offered a discount to veterans, and we know that no gift can truly show our appreciation. But if you are a veteran, we would be honored to send you a gift, with heartfelt thanks, for Veteran’s Day 2016.

Sgt. Homstad would also like to extend his gratitude to his fellow service men and women. “They are what I believe to be the greatest of their generations — the less than 1% of society that helped fight for something bigger than themselves. The wars may have started as a means to a political resolution, but quickly shifted to fighting for the men and women on their right and on their left. That’s true patriotism,” he said.

It’s close to impossible to understand what our men and women have been through and what they continue to deal with even after their service.

“Service men and women are still over there,” Homstad said of troops in the Middle East, “and more are being deployed again and again, putting themselves in harms way. Even though vets leave the service and join the civilian world,” Homstad explains, “the war is not over for any of them. They carry burdens that may never completely heal.”

One thing we do know at Klock Werks is #motofamily. There isn’t anything more important than community, and Homstad, along with the rest of the Klock Krew implores everyone in the nation to not overlook our veterans.

“Veterans may be battling demons that they cannot control,” Homstad said. “I wish for a day when every person would recognize and reach out to veterans every day — no matter how small of an impact they feel it would be (i.e. buying coffee and listening to stories, helping a homeless vet with a resume, or helping vets with items they need for daily survival.) Today’s society should not have to be reminded to be thankful.”

While we know the journey is personal, Veterans of the United States of America, you have our support, today, and every day of your life. Our door is always open, and our ears are ever hearing you. Give us a call today at 605-996-3700 — we’ve got something for you! Enjoy the ride.

Get Klocked at Klock Werks 10th Annual Pre-Sturgis Party Aug. 4

Klock Werks 10th Annual Pre-Sturgis Party August 4

Sturgis Bound? Take a Pit Stop and Get Klocked

There are just over 860,000 residents in South Dakota, and last year, during the 75th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the number of people in the state nearly doubled. The rally brought in close to 750,000 people, setting a record. Mitchell, home of Klock Werks, is 300 miles east of Sturgis, but being right off of Interstate 90, the streets of Mitchell are just as flooded with revved engines! And this year, bikers will have yet another milestone to attend before the rally, the 10th Annual Pre-Sturgis Party at Klock Werks, and everyone is invited!

Eleven years ago, Laura joined Team Klock Werks to help frieds with what was then a small motorcycle shop. The guys were building bikes into the wee hours of the morning, and while Laura left the garage to run some errands, she noticed bikers all over town, at hotels, in parking lots, just hanging out. They had stopped for the night to take a break from the highway.

“When I got back to the shop, I told Brian (Klock) there were bikers everywhere, and we should invite them to all hang out here,” Laura Klock said.

Busy with deadline, Brian declined, but Laura was inspired to bring everyone together. Always family oriented, Laura made the hang-out happen the following year in 2006, and the Pre-Sturgis Party was born!

“We created the Pre-Sturgis Party and set if for the Thursday before the Official Sturgis Rally weekend, and it has been that way ever since,” Laura said.

The team has welcomed friends, family, and bikers from all over the world. They have unveiled bike builds like the Jack Daniel’s Barrel Bike and most recently Helping With Horsepower project bikes from Mitchell’s Abbott House, “Second Chances.” The party buzzes with book and art signings, massages by Integrated Massage Solutions, food trucks, live entertainment, and of course, Culver’s Frozen Custard cart!

The Pre-Sturgis Party has also been a hub for celebrities like Carey Hart, Ricky Carmichael, Jessie Rooke, Jesse Combs, Donnie Smith, Brian Fuller, and even astronaut Curt Brown. “Cornelius,” the Corn Palace mascot, makes a special guest stop along with admins from the Mitchell Chamber and Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. In short, the party has a lot to offer, the greatest of all being camaraderie, friendship, and an excitement for the ride and rally!

“The best part of the party is the people,” Makel Juarez, International Sales Manager said “Getting to see old friends you might only see during Sturgis, meeting new people, seeing new bike builds that people bring by (bikes that are debuting at the rally) – all of those things are super cool. Plus food and entertainment, smiles and laughs – how can you beat that?”

For some, the party is a gamechanger. You never know who you might meet on the road or during a random stop. Sometimes the destination isn’t really the best part of the journey. It’s truly the little things that really count, and you never know who you might run into that changes your life or the way you live it.

Weston Frank’s first Pre-Sturgis Party was just that. After entertaining the crowd, outlaw country music singer and guitarist Frank said he will never forget that day.

“That was my first encounter with ‘The Klocks, first encounter of what Klock Werks is about,” Frank said. “It was nuts! Famous people just randomly jumped up on stage with me to take pictures, and all those people packed into one small area. It made me a fan! Three months later I was hired to work here at Klock Werks!”

This year, the theme for the party is “Get Klocked” as Klock Werks recently released a new campaign inspired by the brand new website that was launched on June 29th, 2016. Klock Werks has been busy with some new parts and products, and it will be the first time that a completely revamped line of apparel will be available.

Don’t miss out on what is sure to be the party of the year! Map your ride to Klock Werks on Thursday, August 4th!!

This 2009 Fat Boy came to us relatively bone stock and ready to revamp. Now, it leaves our hands a new bike, ready to be ridden by it’s a new owner, which can be you!

Centuries of poets, bards, and musicians have long serenaded the masses with the wonders of the world shaking the cold of winter and embracing a rebirth in spring and summer. So, too, are we excited for the changing weather, albeit with less pretty wordification. As we move into the riding season for much of the country, our American Iron Garage Spring issue is in still circulating the newsstands, and Summer will be hitting the shelves at the end of May. There’s still much to be seen on our Dennis Kirk/American Iron Magazine giveaway Fat Boy, with the upcoming issues of AIG rife with installs and how-to guides, and there’s plenty of time for you to enter to win. Head over to Greaserag.com to order any and all back issues of AIG, and keep your eyes peeled for these Fat Boy installs, as well as many others, in the our Summer issue.

We got our hands around some Love Jugs Cool Masters, a pair of external cooling fans that promote efficient air flow over those hot twins while crawling through traffic. It was a fairly straightforward install, and we were even able to complete a Klock Werks project from Spring that required an ignition relocation. The exhaust system also received some TLC in the form of blacked-out 2-into-1 Freedom Exhaust Outlaws, and we noted some tips and tricks to get through this install properly. Lastly, we cleaned up the stock coil and hanging wires with an ACCEL Stealth SuperCoil install, a project that might sound daunting but was actually finished with relative ease. The winner of this sweepstakes will surely be a happy new owner.

Indian Motorcycle and Jack Daniel Pair Up for Straight and Neat Order

Indianfire

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, announced the availability of Limited Edition Jack Daniel’s Indian Springfield and Indian Chief Vintage motorcycle models. This partnership brings together two of America’s most iconic brands that share a mutual commitment to independence, originality, and American craftsmanship dating back more than a century. Created to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Jack Daniel Distillery, which was registered in 1866, each model will be produced in extremely limited numbers not to exceed 150 total units and will benefit U.S. Military personnel and their families through the “Operation Ride Home” program.

Designed in conjunction with Klock Werks Kustom Cycles of Mitchell, S.D. to offer classic styling, premium features, touring comfort and custom detailing, the new hard-bagged Indian Springfield and the leather-bound Indian Chief Vintage are the first-ever production vehicles to feature Jack Daniel’s livery and its “Bottles and Throttles Don’t Mix” responsibility campaign. The first unit of the limited edition series, an Indian Chief Vintage version that was the custom painted prototype built by Klock Werks, will be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction on October 6-8 at the Mandalay Bay resort.  All proceeds from the auction will benefit Operation Ride Home, which assists active duty U.S. military personnel in traveling home to visit their families. More information can be found at Barrett-Jackson.com.

The individually numbered 2016 Limited Edition Jack Daniel’s Indian Springfield and Indian Chief Vintage models are available to order today at your local Indian Motorcycle dealership.  Both motorcycles share an MSRP of $29,999 (California models add $250 for California emissions), a Canada MSRP of $37,499, and will be available for International order except in Brazil. Both models come with a custom-printed Jack Daniel’s whiskey barrel top to commemorate each bike, a two-year unlimited mileage factory warranty, and free membership in the Indian Motorcycle Riders Group for one year.

Both models feature an array of genuine Indian Motorcycle accessories and custom accessories, as well as Jack Daniel’s-inspired custom paint and logos, badging, leather saddle and saddlebags. Each fender is also inscribed with the names of the seven Master Distillers who have overseen the Jack Daniel’s distilling process over its 150-year history. Finally, an inscription of Jack Daniel’s “Bottles and Throttles Don’t Mix” mantra reminds riders that drinking and riding are meant to be enjoyed separately.

Final customization work was designed and completed by Brian Klock and his inspired team at Klock Werks in Mitchell, S.D.

To order one of these highly sought after limited edition motorcycles, please visit or call your local Indian Motorcycle dealership from March 4 to April 4. Only 150 motorcycles will be produced and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. “This is the first time in Jack Daniel’s history that we have aligned with a vehicle manufacturer,” said Dave Stang, Director of Events & Sponsorships for Jack Daniel’s. “Using these new, limited edition motorcycles to help the ‘Operation Ride Home’ program serves as the perfect pairing for these two classic American brands.”

“Indian Motorcycle and Jack Daniels are ideal partners to work together,” said Steve Menneto, President of Motorcycles for Polaris Industries. “We share a respect for history and a common desire to promote responsible riding. These two models will be instant collectors’ items, and more importantly are fantastic motorcycles for everyday riding.”
