2. Rollie Free Bike
I got lucky the day I visited the National Motorcycle Museum. They’d just uncrated a beautiful 1948 Vincent HRD and Museum Director Bill Barber had just rolled it out on the floor. Turns out this Vincent is the world famous Rollie Free Bike, aka the “Bathing Suit Bike.” The picture of Free stretched out like Superman on its tank wearing only swimming trunks while he’s setting a land speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats is one of the most iconic motorcycle photos ever. Cool part is Barber said this motorcycle surprisingly had never been displayed in a museum before. Now it has. It’ll be at the National Motorcycle Museum through Spring 2018. Definitely an unexpected treat and a highlight of my visit.
