The 2017 Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis is in the books, and the lives of more than a dozen veterans have been forever changed on this ride of a lifetime. Bates Footwear, official footwear sponsor of the ride, is proud to support the event and supplied their American-made Freedom and Bomber motorcycle boots for the veterans and crew.

“We are so proud of the work that the Veterans Charity Ride is doing to help improve the lives of these men and women that have served our country,” said Julie McCauley, Bates Footwear Marketing Manager. “As a company that works so closely with the United States military, we couldn’t think of a better organization to partner with that the Veterans Charity Ride. We are thrilled to support them and the life-changing work they do.”

On July 28th, this year’s participants were greeted by supporters at a grand send-off at Los Angeles Fire Station #77 in Sun Valley, CA. From there the group rode the famous Angeles Crest Highway and made their way to the Nevada State Memorial outside Las Vegas. Next up the veterans enjoyed some world-class motorcycle riding through northern Arizona, Utah and Colorado. At each stop along the way, supporters were there to cheer on the veterans and thank them for their service.

“The energy of this year’s ride and program was enthusiastic and the camaraderie amongst the veterans, who were mostly strangers was quick to form and create a sense of unity that all the veterans experience in their military service,” says Veterans Charity Rider founder Dave Frey.

Veterans arrive to a hero’s welcome at the Indian Motorcycle of Sturgis dealership.

A hero’s welcome awaited the veterans as they made their grand entrance to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with a ride down Main Street. The tributes continued as veteran Keith Helfrich was honored as the 2017 Bob Hanson Distinguished Service Award recipient.

On Sunday night, all of the participants were brought on stage at the famous Buffalo Chip and given recognition for their service by an applauding crowd. From there the veterans enjoyed the rest of their time at the rally, riding through the beautiful Black Hills and partaking in a marksmanship competition along the way.

The Ride to Sturgis is just one of the ways in which Veterans Charity Ride supports wounded and severely injured veterans from all branches of service. The non-profit organization uses motorcycle therapy and other life-changing programs to provide uplifting and healing experiences for these veterans, and Bates Footwear is proud to support their efforts.
