News: Harley-Davidson Offers Voluntary Layoffs

Harley-Davidson Inc. is offering voluntary layoffs to hourly workers at three plants in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area to reduce staff by about 26 percent,
giving itself flexibility to hire seasonal workers. The company began making requests for the voluntary layoffs the week of Dec. 5. Workers have until Dec. 23 to decide. It makes motorcycle engines and parts at the plants.

Terry O’Brien Promoted To Harley Magazine Chief Operating Officer

Terry O’Brien has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer for privately owned TAM Communications, publisher of American Iron Magazine, RoadBike – Motorcycle Cruising, Motorcycle Bagger, and American Iron Garage magazines as well as various on-line ventures.

Victory Plays Hard-Ball – New Tour Motorcycle

The Hard-Ball has a six-speed transmission and a belt final drive reinforced with carbon fiber. Dry weight is a hefty 751 pounds. Fuel capacity is 5.8 gallons. The front fork is an inverted telescopic unit, and the rear shock is a single, gas-adjustable monotube arrangement.

And the lastest is Pennsylvania, which became the 35th state to ban texting while driving. The potentially lifesaving bill was signed into law Wednesday by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett. The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reports that the new law makes texting behind the wheel a primary offense, meaning that police can pull over motorists for that violation alone.
