Happy 25th Birthday To Us & You Can Win Prizes
SHIFTING GEARS, by Buzz Kanter, publisher
Time flies when you’re having fun, and I can’t think of many things that are more fun than riding, writing, or wrenching motorcycles.
Hard to believe it was 25 years ago that a brave new concept for a family-friendly Harley magazine came into focus. The first issue of American Iron Magazine was launched for Daytona Bike Week 1989. It was a huge gamble as it was the first Harley-oriented magazine to “focus on the tin, not the skin.” The first couple of years were tough going for the magazine and the often-changing staff. Exactly two years after its launch in California, our Connecticut-based, family-owned publishing company purchased AIM to save it from folding. We sure had our work cut out for us.
Fast-forward 25 years, and after 23 years at the helm, I look back and appreciate all the hard work by our team and your wonderful support. Thanks to you, we have grown into the bestselling American motorcycle-oriented magazine in the world. While the Internet and a challenging economy have carved into the magazine industry, we’ve managed to grow in print and online. For that, we thank you and want to celebrate our 25th birthday by giving you birthday gifts.
Thanks to the support of our many generous advertisers and industry friends, we’re offering the American Iron Magazine/Dennis Kirk Sweepstakes with lots of great prizes all year. Some prizes we will give away every four weeks (announced in each new issue — 13 times a year) and others at the end of the year, so you have lots of chances to win something cool.
In our American Iron Magazine/Dennis Kirk Sweepstakes, one lucky person will win our grand prize, a brand-new Indian motorcycle, at the end of the year. Another will win our first prize, a new S&S Cycle engine. There are plenty more year-end prizes plus, every four weeks, we will draw winners for a $1,000 gift certificate from Dennis Kirk, a complete library of Fix My Hog discs, an Adventure Power motorcycle battery, and five $50 gift certificates from GreaseRag.com. For the latest list of prizes (we keep adding more), info on how to enter the American Iron Magazine/Dennis Kirk Sweepstakes, and full details, please visit AIMag.com. All subscribers in the US (existing or new) are automatically entered to win. No purchase necessary.
Adventure Power’s Team American Iron
It’s no secret I’ve been an active rider and enthusiast long before I became a magazine editor. Or that I have a deep passion for classic motorcycles. So it should be no surprise that I signed up for the 4,000-mile Motorcycle Cannonball ride from Daytona Beach, Florida, to Tacoma, Washington, in September. I’m joining Paul Ousey, AIM columnist Cris Sommer Simmons and her husband Pat Simmons (of the Doobie Brothers) to form Adventure Power’s Team American Iron. I’d like to thank Adventure Power, an innovative powersports battery manufacturer, for stepping up as our title sponsor. For more info on Adventure Power products, please check out its ad in this magazine.
In addition to publishing American Iron Magazine, Motorcycle Bagger, and our all-tech American Iron Garage, we’re changing the name of what had been RoadBike to Motorcycle magazine. The new Motorcycle magazine is a high- quality bimonthly offering in-depth articles and a different perspective on motorcycle culture and history. It’s unlike any other motorcycle magazine. Check out Motorcycle magazine in print or in digital format on Zinio.com.
Ride safe, ride smart, have fun.
