Product Review: Harley-Davidson Baxter and Layton Casual Shoes
By Tyler Greenblatt
Riding a Harley-Davidson for most of us is just as much of a lifestyle as it is a fun activity and it sucks to hang up your leather and tuck your boots away when the ride is over. Harley-Davidson’s footwear division has developed a line of casual shoes that let the lifestyle continue even after the ride is done. H-D’s casual shoe line nails that middle ground between a riding boot and a casual sneaker which make them great for rallies, events, bar hops, or just toolin’ around the garage. You don’t want to walk around in heavy leather boots all day, but shiny white tennis shoes can definitely cramp your style.
We tested a couple options for men and women that are perfect for those Harley days that are less about the ride and more about the experience. The first option tested is the men’s Baxter in black and white (#D93341/$65). This classic high-top sneaker provides all the attitude of a riding boot but with the lightweight, all-day walkability of a sneaker. The black textured leather features the Willie G. skull logo on the outside and “Harley-Davidson” written on the tongue. It’s cool and comfortable, and is fine for short rides and long walks. It’s also available in an all-black version and a black/orange version.
We also took a look at the women’s Layton shoe in light grey with teal trim (#D83976/$70). It’s got the same classic styling as the Baxter but with a way softer side. The all-canvas design provides a cool, old-school look and feel that matches well with any Harley outfit, thanks in part to the sewn-on H-D badge on the outside cuff. The Layton shoe is also available in burgundy with white trim and black with purple trim.
The variety of offerings for men and women provide for a much more comfortable off-bike experience, which, let’s face it, at rallies and events is more often than not.
