Rusty Butcher Makes Racing Fun Again at Halloween TrackerCross 2017

“I’ve been waiting for this day to come for a long, long time. Hey I’m gonna break these chains and feel the sweet sunshine.” Bones Owens Long Long Time

TrackerCross knows about breaking chains. Breaking the chains of the 9 to 5, breaking away from the everyday drive, going nowhere fast on the 405, waiting for the chance to twist a throttle and feel alive. There’s something holistic about bringing your bike to the fringes of the desert and bangin’ bars with buds all day then enjoying a cold one under the stars, swaying to the melodies of Bones Owens or the beats of Wild the Coyote & the Badd Wolf.

Leave it to Rusty Butcher to stoke the coals of the SoCal desert race scene in the vein of Ekins and McQueen. Balls out, dirt bag drags down a dimly lit dusty road. A carousel of Sportsters and Dynas spinning circles around hay bales to heavy metal in a game of musical chairs with motorcycles. Pit bikes buzzing like flies around Milestone with one wheel lofted in the air. Vintage tank shifters taking flight off the TT mound. Seeing the storied ATC in all its wicked forms sliding around Milestone’s dirt track at breakneck speeds. Watching racers’ faces light up during the awards ceremony when Mark Atkins randomly dished out goodies like a Biltwell Rusty Butcher LaneSplitter Helmet or an S&S 1250 Hooligan Kit to the person who crashed the most (and also picked themselves up the most times) or simply for showing up and racing hard.

Airborne TrackerCross 2017

Clear for takeoff!

While the action was for the most part clean and competitive, Born Free’s Grant Peterson took a wild ride into the wall when the handlebars of his 1942 WL came off mid-race.

“Had a great time at @trackercross yesterday until one of the two bolts that held the handlebar top clamp came out with @go_takamine hot on my tail. After realizing what was actually happening and why my bars were turning and the bike wasn’t, I tried to bail off it as it sped straight for the wall. I feel like I got first place, the bike got second, and the wall got third since they had to replace the panel I took out. The bike almost went over the wall and I’m really stoked it didn’t land on me! I did win a nice broken fibula in my left leg and @moon895 bought me Del Taco and carted me home,” posted Peterson @large_hands_grant.

In times when there’s few bastions of unbridled fun left for motorcyclists to get into, TrackerCross breaks the chains of conventionalism and sets fun free. Being unconventional is the Butcher way.

“@trackercross is in the books. I want to say thank you to all who came out and supported my race. @milestonemx especially for all the work you guys do. Although I don’t consider myself an event promoter, I am simply just “winging” it 95% of the time and this #Trackercross went as smooth as butter. Everyone had a blast and smiles ear to ear. The racing was fast, the Harley’s were flying, and everyone had a great time. Also had a chance to bring my buddy @bonesowens to play which was amazing. Thank you to the baddest mother f*cking motor company on the planet @harleydavidson for helping me put this event on and letting me take over your social channels to tell our story of grassroots racers who want to have fun riding motorcycles. #MadeRacingFunAgain,” posted Rusty Butcher.
