Suggestions Wanted For 2014 American Iron Kickstart Classic Motorcycle Rides

We at American Iron Magazine encourage all motorcycle owners to ride and enjoy your bikes – old, new or in between. It’s pretty easy to find a local ride for newer bikes, but not always so easy for those classics that are not as comfortable at highway speeds.

American Iron Magazine’s Kickstart Classic Ride Spring 2013

That is one of the reasons we created the Kickstart Classic rides. We held the first one in 2010, another in 2011 and 2012 and 2 in 2013. So now we need to decide what and when to hold the Kickstart Classic rides in 2014, and we’d like to hear your suggestions.

Ideally the Kickstart Classic rides should be fun for classic motorcycles and last two full days ending at a great motorcycle-related event, destination or rally. And the rides should not be within a month before or after the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run in September 2014.

Suggestions please?

I would suggest the ride finish destination be the Harvest Classic Vintage Motorcycle Rally
    October 17 & 18 in Luckenbach, TX.
Luckenbach is one of the coolest places you’ll ever visit in America.
Just ask Willie Nelson or Google. It has plenty of parking and camping plus a full service KOA next to it.

The Kickstart Classic ride would be the week before through the “Texas Hill Country”, some of the nicest country and motorcycle friendly roads you’ll ever find in the USA. You ride up and down long hills with fun, but not technical curves. There are plenty of straight runs for throttle twisting and blowing out some carbon. Roads have excellent surfaces, are well marked and uncongested. Scenery includes, rivers, well fenced horse and cattle ranches, trees and hills. Speed limits are generous and traffic lights rare. You can find gas before you need it. This area should be a good match for enjoyable and safe classic motorcycle riding.

Weather during the 2013 event was sunny and in the 70’s, typical for mid October. My wife, posse and 51 Indian Chief had a great time and already plan to go back this year.

There is plenty of excellent lodging throughout the area, especially in Fredericksburg, TX which is 15 minutes from Luckenback. Many restaurants, shops and wineries in the area for keeping wives entertained. Closest major hub for flights, motorcycle shipments etc. is San Antonio, about 2 hours east.

I would be happy to contribute my time to the event coordinating effort. Let me know if you want any more information. I’ve been an AIM subscriber for a number of years and plan to keep on.
