Top 10 Motorcycle Rallies of the Summer
2. Laconia Motorcycle Week -June 11 – 19, 2016
Celebrating its 93rd anniversary this year, Laconia is the oldest motorcycle rally in America. It’s always a good time at New Hampshire’s rally on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee.
Weirs Beach is the center of action, the place where all the vendors set up shop, home of the annual fireworks show, and location of venues like the Laconia Roadhouse that hosts performances by the Flaunt Girls and live music daily. It’s also where you’ll see the biker build-off where competitors have one week to build a bike from the ground-up with the crowd voting for their favorite.
Laconia is stepping up its entertainment game this year with a list of big-name concerts at the Weirs Beach Drive-In. Musical guests include Buckcherry, Fuel & Saving Abel, Bret Michaels, Ted Nugent, and Sevendust.
Racing continues to play a big part at the Laconia motorcycle rally. The FIM North American Vintage Championships at New Hampshire Motor Speedway kicks it off the first weekend while the Loudon Classic finishes racing action with a bang. The Shawn P. Farnsworth Memorial Pro Hill Climbs, a Laconia staple, are a huge draw, too.
The Naswa Resort is a central figure of Laconia Motorcycle Week. It’s one of the best places to get together with friends and chill because they’ve got a bar set up literally on the banks of the lake with live entertainment daily. The Naz kicks off the Laconia celebration with the Peter Makris Memorial Ride while the action heats up later in the week during the Naswa bikini contest.
Laconia also offers plenty of riding opportunities. The White Mountains are lush and green, there’s Gypsy tours almost every day, covered bridge rides or runs to the Maine coast. And everybody should ride up Mt. Washington Auto Road at least once in their lifetime.
You don’t get to be the oldest American motorcycle rally without having something special. Laconia does, reason we rank it number 2 on our Top 10 list.
