Top 10 Motorcycle Rallies of the Summer

Myrtle Beach Bike Week

10. Myrtle Beach Bike Week –  May 13 -22, 2016

Once upon a time, Myrtle Beach Bike Week would have ranked much higher. Until the city of Myrtle Beach came up with a bunch of ordinances to discourage bikers from coming there in 2008. They also bumped up prices on vendors, and the double whammy resulted in diminishing attendance numbers.

But the event has rebounded the last few years as the rally has spread out to areas like Murrells Inlet, North Myrtle Beach and Georgetown, South Carolina. There’s no denying the beauty of the beaches of the Grand Strand. With live music every night, biker games daily, and its infamous burnout pit, Suck Bang Blow in Murrells Inlet continues to be a big hit with bikers. This year the Swamp Fox Entertainment Complex in Marion will be hosting The Swamp Fox Biker Bash, a rally and music festival. Swamp Fox’s schedule includes a custom bike show, a cruise-in to benefit the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, performances by the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow Revue and plenty of musical acts. It also offers on-site tent and RV camping.

Plenty of other local businesses like Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson are on board trying hard to restore some of the glory to Myrtle Beach Bike Week. The South Carolina Supreme Court struck down the city of Myrtle Beach’s law that required motorcycle riders coming through town to wear helmets and eyewear back in 2010, the S.C. Supreme Court ruling the City of Myrtle Beach Ordinance 2008-64 invalid on the grounds it’s superseded by state law. The views of the few don’t always represent the views of the population as a whole, so it’s time to forgive and forget as Myrtle Beach Bike Week breaks into our Top 10 list in the tenth slot.
