Top 10 Motorcycle Rallies of the Summer
5. Lone Star Rally – November 3-6, 2016
The last big biker bash of the season, the annual Lone Star Rally rolls into Galveston, Texas, the first week of November. Thanks to the balconied businesses, bars, restaurants and vendors set up in the downtown district known as The Strand, the Lone Star Rally has a Mardi Gras vibe to it. There’s a constant rotation of musical acts on the Budweiser Stage downtown, bike and car shows out on the pier, and a big tattoo expo. The Miss Lone Star Rally contest always draws a crowd. They do a “Run Down the Shore” Thursday to Sea Wolf Park where participants get to explore a Navy submarine and destroyer. Outlaw Dave’s Ranch Ride is another popular event. A constant stream of motorcycles parade down the middle of the street and it’s fun to find a good spot to post up and just watch the spectacle.
The party takes place at a second location called The Seawall as well. It hosts its own bounty of bike shows, biker games, and free shows. Right across the street is the Pleasure Pier, a mini amusement park sitting right on the water. They’re still in the process of nailing down this year’s entertainment schedule, but last year Jackyl, Brian Howe of Bad Co., Hairball and Cold Hard Cash all played.
The Lone Star Rally takes place on the Gulf of Mexico, so if you want to get away from it all for a day you can take a fishing trip or dolphin cruise. Simply kicking back and enjoying the beach and green waters of the Gulf is always good for the body and mind.
We’ve got word that this year’s Lone Star Rally might feature a new wrinkle or two. We can’t spill the beans because negotiations are still in the works, but if it does go through, it will add another dimension to an already good time in Galveston. Score one for Texas again as the Lone Star Rally ranks number 5 in our Top 10.
